Pilates training for a healthy back

Back problems are still in the negative trend. According to the 2021 health report from Techniker Krankenkasse, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and especially of the back are still among the most common diseases in Germany. They also play an important role in the reported incapacity for work (Techniker Krankenkasse, 2021, pp. 46-51).

Various studies repeatedly show the relevance of regular exercise for pain relief. This is also the case with a study from 2021 on the subject of the effects of Pilates training in people with chronic back pain with the aim of improving quality of life. The study confirmed that regular participation in guided training - in this special case Pilates - leads to a significant reduction in personal pain perception and an improvement in quality of life (Yang, Tsai, Wu, Ho, Chou & Huang, 2021, p. 294- 299).

The Pilates method is a holistic concept, the goals of which are to stabilize and mobilize the spine, strengthen the core muscles, and improve the interaction of the back muscles and body awareness.
